Inspect Element On Ipad
Ever been building a mobile optimised or responsive site – and been stuck on a rendering issue which only seems to happen on an actual mobile device? This can be rather annoying when you are trying to debug it on your desktop computer – sometimes you simply can’t replicate the problem.
Web Development Tools. Apple has brought its expertise in macOS and iOS development tools to the web. Safari includes Web Inspector, a powerful tool that makes it easy to modify, debug, and optimize a website for peak performance and compatibility on both platforms. Steps Enable Inspect Element Feature in Safari Browser First of all open your Safari Browser. Now on the above top right side click on “Safari” besides apple logo. Now open “Preferences” in it. In Preferences go to “Advanced” and then select “Show Develop menu in menu bar”. And you’re done. In your Safari menu bar click Safari Preferences & then select the Advanced tab. Select: 'Show Develop menu in menu bar' Now you can click Develop in your menu bar and choose Show Web Inspector. You can also right-click and press 'Inspect element'. Now debug the page that is open on mobile Safari just like you would debug on Mac, inspect DOM elements, modify CSS, measure page performance and run Javascript commands. Use the debugger tool to help you find the cause of any JavaScript errors on your webpage.
With their web browser Safari, Apple have provided web developers with a quick and easy way to be able to debug and inspect elements on actual mobile devices (only iPhones and iPads currently). This has proved invaluable for us at Adao* when we are developing mobile optimised or responsive sites. Please note this will only work on an actual Apple Mac, and not on Safari on Windows.
First things first, plug in your iPhone!
You will have to have Safari open on your iPhone, with the website open that you want to inspect element on.
Next, open Safari on your Apple Mac. You will have to enable the Developer menu by going to Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Check the checkbox “Show Develop menu in menu bar”
![]()
You will now have a “Develop” option in the top menu bar. Click it, and you will see your iPhone there as an option. Hover over it and it’ll show you the page you currently have open on Safari on your iPhone.
Click the page, and you will be presented with a Web Inspector window for the page on your iPhone. Cool eh?
An even cooler feature is if you highlight an element in the web inspector it highlights it on your iPhone in real time. This means you know exactly what you are inspecting as you go through the elements.
You can then go through all the corresponding styles and edit them as you would the usual way to debug in inspect element, and that problem you found a pain to debug should be a doddle to fix!

In pretty much every web browser, it is easy to view the HTML source of a webpage. By default, users and developers alike know to right-click on a webpage and select View page source from the right-click menu. The keyboard command CTRL+U usually does the trick too. Apple has decided to Think Different with this feature where Safari on Mac is concerned. It is possible to view HTML source in Safari on Mac. But it is hidden by default.
The underlying HTML code that allows a web browser to render a page is not a secret. Code inspection, SEO, development, curiosity, and education are just a few reasons why anyone would want to the view HTML source of a webpage. Mac users who would like to access this capability more readily can show it in a few quick steps.
Open Safari Preferences
Get started by launching Safari on Mac. By default, the right-click menu does not display an option to view HTML source.
To show this feature, click Safari > Preferences.
In the Preferences window, click the Advanced tab. At the bottom of the Advanced tab, click the Show Develop menu in menu bar checkbox.
With the checkbox ticked, the Develop menu appears in Safari’s menu bar. Additionally, when you right-click in a web page, two new options display in the right-click menu: Show Page Source and Inspect Element.

Also activated is the handy keyboard shortcut Command+Option+U, which does the same as selecting Show Page Source from the right-click menu.
